Early Aviation in Kern County

A Presentation by Barbara Shultz

Barbara Shultz’s book “Pioneering Aviation in Kern County 1910-1945” was written as a fund raiser for the Golden Age Flying Museum in Bakersfield. Her illustrated talk here for the Historical Society is based on that book. She talks first about pioneering local pilots and air shows that attracted visiting barnstormers all the way to the development of Kern County Airport #1. Shultz has been an aviation historian/researcher/speaker for some 30 years and has completed six projects for the American Aviation Historical Society Journal.
