CLASSIC MOVIE NIGHT at the Historic USO Building

–
12 March 2025

Now that we have wrapped up our film series honoring Black History Month, it’s time for a new series for spring going into the summer months. Classic Movie Night’s next series of eight classic films is entitled “Directed By…”,  honors the greatest of the great film directors…past and present.  Our featured directors will include: Cecil B. DeMille, John Ford, Billy Wilder, Alfred Hitchcock, George Cukor, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, and Greta Gerwig. There is something here for everyone!
On Wednesday, March 12, at 7:15 pm, we honor one of the great pioneers of the motion picture industry, Cecil B. DeMille, American actor and film maker. Between 1914 and 1958, he made 70 features, both silent and sound films. He is acknowledged as a founding father of American cinema and the most commercially successful producer-director in film history, with many films dominating the box office three or four at a time. His films were distinguished by their epic scale and by his cinematic showmanship. His silent films included social dramas, comedies, westerns, farces, morality plays, and historical pageants.  We will be showing the one and only film that won him Best Director and Best Picture Oscars®.  Thrill to his 1952 colorful and mammoth Circus adventure/drama starring Charleton Heston, James Stewart, Gloria Grahame, Dorothy Lamour, Cornel Wilde, and Betty Hutton, among many other glittering stars of the era. As usual in all of his sound epics, DeMille narrates the day-to-day adventures of the circus world in his grand vocal manner. Come watch the circus…in 3-strip Technicolor® on our Big Screen!   (photo: imdb.com)
