2 July 2025
On Wednesday, July 2 at the Historic USO Building, Get ready for a riotous 4th of July with a 1979 American war comedy film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. The film stars an ensemble cast including Dan Aykroyd, Ned Beatty, John Belushi, Christopher Lee, Tim Matheson, Toshiro Mifune, Treat Williams, Robert Stack, Nancy Allen, Patti LuPone, Penny Marshall, Elisha Cook, Jr., John Candy, Slim Pickens, and Mickey Rourke in his film debut. The story involves a panic in the Los Angeles area after the December 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Fighter jets flying down Hollywood Blvd? Holy smokes!
The crazy film was not one of Spielberg’s biggest financial hits, but through the years, repeated showings at repertory cinema houses and on television have raised this quirky comedy to cult status! Come judge for yourselves!
